I attended the 2018 IoT World Congress in Barcelona on the 16th and 18th of Octobre 2018.
Besides the typical IoT devices such as beacons, sensors and the Artificial [not so] Intelligent solutions such as Image Recognition and Machine Learning that are the bread-and-butter of such events, the spate of Blockchain and ICO market offerings caught my attention.
I mainly focused on cryptocurrencies and visited the booths of Coders House, ICO Box, Verge, Win Miner, Vinci PR and Cryptofranchise bemused to see that there are real people, and sometimes, real investments and [maybe] value, behind the hype.
What is still up in the air is to see how this new economy will sustain itself in the long run, but what I am sure of, is that following the pattern of other technologies such as Internet, e-commerce and m-commerce, blockchain and cryptocurrencies have now emerged and are here to stay.
But there will be winners and losers.
